SPIRITUAL HEALTH

10 steps to good health

A lot of times when bad things happen, we are not spiritually prepared to deal with them. Well, you might not know exactly what to do, but I can help point you in the right direction. This outline is by no means exhaustive, nor is it a special formula. We live in this world, but are not of this world. We need to delicately consider all things involved in relation to one's health. There is a healthy balance of faith and wisdom and plain old common sense. But first and foremost is our faith...

1. Salvation.
If you are not saved or would like to recommit Your life to Jesus Christ, please go to our Salvation page and come back once you are renewed. This does not mean that God doesn't heal the unsaved. I recently heard a well-known man of God say "God heals the unsaved because of His mercy. God heals the believer because of His Covenant." It is God's will that all be saved. It is also God's will that all would be well. While you are at it, why not search your heart and see if there is any unforgiveness towards another. How do you think God will forgive you if you won't forgive someone else? (3 John 1:2, John 3:15-16, 2
Peter 3:9, Math 6:14-15, Mark 11:25)

2. Read the Word.
This is one sure way to build your faith! Better yet, read it out loud! Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God. As a Christian, you can't do anything in God without your faith. Faith brings you beyond believing to knowing. Build your spiritual muscles. Don't just believe, be fully convinced! Why do YOU believe? Can YOU be moved when the pressure is on? All it takes is faith as small as a mustard seed -- but, you have to plant a seed , water it, give it sunlight, prune the plant... the seed is just the beginning. Cultivate your faith, take care of it. Let the roots go down deep. Watch it grow. YOU CAN move mountains. (Romans
10:17, Matt. 17:20 NIV)

3. Pray.
Seek God with all your heart. He loves you and He understands. Pour out your heart. Tell Him all -- the good and the bad. Be real, He knows it anyway. Once I was so mad at God and I just told Him exactly what I thought! Well, more than once. I went through a season that I blamed everything bad on Him. "Well, if You loved me then you would not have let this happen..." "God, where were you when I needed..." so on and so on. To my surprise, God wasn't mad at me for telling Him the way I felt. He began to express love to me when I didn't deserve it. Of course, I finally realized that it wasn't His fault. Most of the time it was my own disobedience that brought me trouble. Which brings me to my next point...

4. Obey His Word.
Rules! Boundaries! Limits! It's for our own good. God knows more than we do. Sometimes we understand, sometimes we don't. But when we don't is when we get to exercise our trust in Him. Does God really know what's going on down here? Of course He does! Practice obedience. Remember His Word - "I set before you this day life and death, blessings and cursings, choose life." Don't be legalistic. That will only lead to pride when you do good and condemnation when you mess up. Just remember, when you fall, exercise your right to be forgiven! Confess your sin, repent, and go on, white as snow! Praise Jesus! (Deut. 30:19, Gal. 3:11-12, Isaiah 55:8-10)

5. Sow seed toward your healing.
Exercise your faith for someone else's healing. Pray for others who are sick. Support a healing ministry. Get creative! Recently, I had to go have an MRI done. I dreaded going to the hospital. I decided to use it as an opportunity to sow seed. I made healing scripture bookmarks. My mother and I passed them out at the hospital. We even left them in the bathroom! I was sowing seed toward their healing and mine as well. I sowed seed, it is God who will make it grow. But without my sowing, how could I be looking for a harvest? Ask God to show you where your seed is. (Gen. 8:22, 2 Cor. 9:9-1 )

6. Confess your healing.
Speak the Word of God! Even when you don't feel well, give one answer to everyone, "I'm doing better every day." If you want, You can add "just keep me in your prayers." They'll get the point. Always remember that life and death are in the power of the tongue. You don't have to deny the symptoms, just deny their right to be there. Don't complain about it. You don't want to curse yourself with your own words. Read healing scriptures out loud and confess them as yours! Take authority over the enemy! He must obey the Word! Speak to your body. Tell it to line up! (Pro. 18:2, Matt. 12:36-37, James 1:26)

7. Praise and Worship.
Get in His Presence. How could you not get healed. Just one touch. In His presence is fullness of joy. The joy of the Lord is our strength. A merry heart is good like a medicine... Even when you don't physically feel good, you will notice that you feel better in His presence. The praise and worship isn't only for God, it is also for you. It strengthens your soul and spirit as well! Worship can bring deliverance. Music is powerful! (Heb. 10:22, Ps.
16:11, Neh. 8:11, Pro. 17:22)

8. Renew Your mind.
This is another reason you need the scriptures! They will help you keep your focus. The enemy can and does exaggerate things. You will have a hard time receiving your healing if you concentrate on the negative. Feelings will lie, don't let them dictate to you. It will cause you to be double minded. Have you ever felt like you were walking in circles? Another thing you need to consider is: Are you thankful for what you do have? If not, change your perspective and find something to be grateful for. It's all in how you choose to look at things. Offer up thanksgiving!(Rom. 12:2, James 1:8, James 4:8, Psalm 100:4, 1 Thes. 5:18 )

9. Practice a healthy lifestyle.
Do all that you can do to honour God with your body. Pray and thank God before you eat. Take care of yourself. It IS His temple. Learn what your body needs to stay healthy. Now, if you are already sick and weak you may not be able to go out and exercise. God knows that. If you have practiced bad health habits in the past, repent, then give it to God. Then you do what you can to sow healthier habits. Even if all you can do is drink more water, do it unto God. Ask God to show you what it is that He wants you to do. God wanted me to give up coffee because I was drinking it in excess. It had me. Nothing should pull you into extremes. Remember -- moderation in all things. (1 Cor. 6:19
, Phil. 4:4-6)

10. Wait. Expect. Don't give up.

This is sometimes the hardest part of the process. This is also where a lot of people lose the battle. When you are physically weakened or sick, It's hard to fight. You're tired. Sometimes all you want to do is crawl in a ball under the blankets and hide from it all. It's even hard to pray when you are weary. Some of my most intimate prayers have been nothing more than a gasp, squeak, or a whimper. God hears your heart. He can interpret it. He will strengthen you. Learn to trust Him. I don't know why some battles take longer than others but I do know you are more than a conqueror. Don't lose heart. God is with you. (Rom.
8:37
)

In the end there is only one way to receive healing and deliverance from God. It is simple... yet so complex. You receive it all from God -- by grace, through faith. It is the same way you received your Salvation -- by grace, through faith. Pray and ask God to give you a revelation of the power of His grace -- by grace, through faith. I say it over and over to remind myself -- by grace, through faith.
