Two Travelling Angels
Two travelling Angels stopped to spend the night in the home of a wealthy family.
The family was rude and refused to let the angels stay in the mansion's guest room.
Instead the Angels were given a space in the cold basement.
As they made their bed on the hard floor, the older Angel saw a hole in the wall and repaired it.
When the younger Angel asked why, the older Angel replied...
"Things aren't always what they seem."
The next night the pair came to rest at the house of a very poor, but very hospitable farmer and his wife.
After sharing what little food they had, the couple let the Angels sleep in their bed where they could have a good night's rest.
When the sun came up the next morning, the Angels found the farmer and his wife in tears.
Their only cow, whose milk had been their sole income, lay dead in the field.
The younger Angel was infuriated and asked the older Angel,
"How could you have let this happen? The first man had everything, yet you helped him" she accused.
"The second family had little but was willing to share everything, and you let their cow die."
"Things aren't always what they seem," the older Angel replied.
"When we stayed in the basement of the mansion, I noticed there was gold stored in that hole in the wall.
Since the owner was so obsessed with greed and unwilling to share his good fortune, I sealed the wall so he wouldn't find it.
"Then last night, as we slept in the farmer’s bed, the Angel of Death came for his wife.
I gave her the cow instead. Things aren't always what they seem."
Sometimes this is exactly what happens when things don't turn out the way they should.
If you have faith, you just need to trust that every outcome is always to your advantage.
You might not know it until some time later.

There was an incredibly large group of people assembled. On one side of the
group stood a man, Jesus. On the other side of the group stood another
man, Satan. Separating them, running through the group was a fence.
The scene set, both Jesus and Satan began calling to the people in the group and, one by one,
each having made up his or her mind, each went to either Jesus or Satan.
This kept going, and eventually Jesus had gathered around him a group of
people from the larger crowds, as did Satan. But one man joined neither
group. He climbed the fence that was there and just sat down on it.
Then Jesus and his people left and disappeared. So too did Satan and his
people. And the man on the fence sat alone.
As this man sat there, Satan came back, and appeared to be looking for
something that he'd lost. The man said, "Have you lost something?"
Satan looked straight at him and replied, "No, there you are. Come with
"But," said the man, "I sat on the fence. I chose neither you nor Him.
"That's okay," said Satan. "I own the fence."

"A Christian Man" There once was a man who was plagued with sin, He didn't know what horrible shape he was in. One day he decided to give his life to the Lord, Because he wanted to be with one accord. Soon the Lord heard his humble cry, he said, "My child I will not pass you by." Jesus took away the sin and shame, he told him to cherish his new given name. Now go out and serve me as much as you can, I'll always be around to help you stand. As the trial and tribulations come and go, Don't stop calling on my name, for these things come to help us grow! If at anytime you think you can't make it, Remember my words and speak it out bit by bit. My word will be there to help you stand, you can't go without it, if you want to be grand. Today He is still in the Christian race, For someday he will see the Lord face to face. |

The One You Seek You can search the whole world over in your quest for inner peace; You can visit every church in town looking for sweet release. You can call on every man of power leading every noble cause; And follow every beckoning voice, pursuing without pause. The One you seek has thorn-pierced brow; His hands and feet bear scars. He lives inside each blood-bought man, and reigns o'er all the stars. A man of splendour and of might -- humility and pain; The lowly, perfect Lamb of God -- Forever He will reign! And JESUS is His Name!

Someone Cares Someone cares and always will, The World forgets but God loves you still, You cannot go beyond His love No matter what you're guilty of For God forgives until the end, He is your faithful, loyal friend, And though you try to hide your face There is no shelter any place That can escape His watchful eye, For on the earth and in the sky He's ever present and always there To take you in His tender care And bind the wounds and mend the breaks When all the world around forsakes... Someone cares and loves you still And God is the Someone who always will!! Helen Steiner Rice |
GOD'S BOXES |
THE BURNING HUT The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him, and every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements and to store his few possessions. But then one day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, the smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened; everything was lost. He was stunned with grief and anger. "God, how could you do this to me!" he cried. Early the next day, however, he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. "How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers. "We saw your smoke signal," they replied. Author Unknown |

God and the Barber
This is one of the best explanations of why God allows pain and suffering that I have seen. It's an explanation other people will understand. A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the barber said: "I don't believe that God exists." "Why do you say that?" asked the customer. "Well, you just have to go out in the street to realize that God doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed, there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can't imagine loving a God who would allow all of these things." The customer thought for a moment, but didn't respond because he didn't want to start an argument. The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and un-kept. The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: "You know what? Barbers do not exist." "How can you say that?" asked the surprised barber. "I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!" "No!" the customer exclaimed. "Barbers don't exist because if they did, there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards, like that man outside." "Ah, but barbers DO exist! What happens is, people do not come to me." "Exactly!"- affirmed the customer. "That's the point! God, too, DOES exist! What happens, is, people don't go to Him and do not look for Him. That's why there's so much pain and suffering in the world." |
Why Worry: Why worry about tomorrow And the rising of the sun. Or anguish over past mistakes, That cannot be undone? Why waste life's precious moments, On things that bruise the heart; When today is ours to fashion, Into a work of art? Today comes but once, my friend, It never returns. So use it wisely while you can. There is a lesson you may learn. Let history, record the past, And tomorrow come what may. Be content to do your best. With what you have today!
The U in JesUs Before U were thought of or time had begun, God even stuck U in the name of His Son. And each time U pray, you'll see it's true, You can't spell out JesUs and not include U. You're a pretty big part of His wonderful name. For U, He was born; that's why He came. And His great love for U is the reason He died. It even takes U to spell crUcified. Isn't it thrilling and splendidly grand, He rose from the dead with U in His plan. The stones split away, the gold trUmpet blew, And even the word resUrrection is spelled with a U. When JesUs left earth during His upward ascension, He felt there was one thing He just had to mention, "Go into the world and tell them it's true, That I love them all -- Just like I Love U." There are so many people just like U. Don't they have a right to know JesUs too? It all depends now on what U will do; He'd like them to know, but it all starts with U! |

The Cross Up a hill one lone man walks and all around Him is sadness He can hear loud cries as the guards talk But in the crowd there is madness! There is a cross that stalks Him Thee are guards who shove Him There is his father above Him And all those who love Him. Finally He reaches the top One nail, two nails, three nails... But he never tells them STOP!! For He knows His Father's plan won't fail... Up on the Cross the man hangs Father forgive them, for they know not what they do!! Those are the words of my idol in pain And with this HE slipped into the new!! |
The Cross In My Pocket I carry a cross in my pocket, A simple reminder to me That I am a Christian, No matter where I may be. This little cross isn't magic, Nor is it a good luck charm. It isn't meant to protect me From every physical harm. It's not for identification For all the world to see. It's simply an understanding Between my Saviour and me. It reminds me too, to be thankful For my blessings every day, And to strive to serve Him better In all that I do or say. When I put my hand in my pocket To bring out a coin or a key, The cross is there to remind me Of the price He paid for me. It's also a daily reminder Of the peace and comfort I share With all who know my Master And give themselves to His care. So, I carry a cross in my pocket Reminding none but me That Jesus Christ is Lord of my life, If only I'll let Him be. Author Unknown |

I asked God I asked God to give me abundant life. God said, no!. It is not for me to take away, but for you to give it up. I asked God to heal My crippled child. God said, no! His spirit is whole, his body is only temporary. I asked God to grant me patience. God said, No! Patience is a by product of tribulations; it isn't granted, it is learned. I asked God to give me happiness. God said, no! I give you blessings; Happiness is up to you. I asked God to spare me pain. God said. No! Suffering draws you apart from the worldly cares and brings you closer to me. I ask God to make my spirit grow. God said, no! You must grow on your own, but I will prune you to make you fruitful. I ask God for all the things that I might enjoy in life. God said no! I will give you life, so that you may enjoy all things. I asked God to help me LOVE others, as much as he loves me. God said---Ahhhhhhhhh. Finally you have the idea. |
The Five Finger Prayer 1. Your thumb is nearest to you. So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. 2. The next finger is the pointing finger. Pray for those who teach, instruct and heal. This includes teachers, doctors, and ministers. They need support and wisdom in pointing others in the right direction. 3. The next finger is the tallest finger. It reminds us of our leaders. Pray for the president/prime minister, leaders in business and industry and administrators. These people shape our nation and guide public opinion. They need God's guidance. 4. The fourth finger is our ring finger. Surprising to many is fact that this is our weakest finger. It should remind us to pray for those who are weak, in trouble or in pain. They need your prayers day and night. 5. And lastly comes our littlest finger. Which is where we should place ourselves in relation to God and others. As the Bible says, "the least shall be the greatest among you." Your pinky should remind you to pray for yourself. By the time you have prayed for the other four groups, your own needs will be put into proper perspective and you will be able to pray for yourself more effectively. |
When The Good Lord Created Mothers
When the Good Lord was creating mothers He was into His 6th day of overtime when the angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one.”
And the Lord said, "Have you read the specification on this order? She has to be completely washable but not plastic, have 180 movable parts . . .
all replaceable, run on black coffee and leftovers, have a lap that disappears when she stands up, a kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair and 6 pairs of hands"
The angel shook her head slowly and said, "6 pairs of hands....no way."
"It's not the hands that are causing me the problems," said the Lord, "It's the three pairs of eyes that Mothers have to have."
"That's in the standard model?" asked the angel.
The Lord nodded. "One pair that sees through closed doors when she asks 'What are you kids doing in there?'
When she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that sees what she shouldn't but what she has to know
and of course the ones here in front so that she can look at a child when he goofs and say, 'I understand and I love you' without so much as uttering a word."
"Lord," said the angel touching his sleeve gently, "it's time for bed. "
"No I can't," said the Lord, "I'm so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one that heals herself when she is sick . . .
can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger . . . and can get a 9 yr. old to stand under a shower."
The angel circled the model of a Mother very slowly. "It's too soft," she sighed.
"But tough!" said the Lord excitedly. "You cannot imagine what this Mother can do or endure."
"Can it think?"
"Not only think, but it can reason and compromise," said the Creator.
Finally, the angel bent over and ran a finger across the cheek. "There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told You, You were trying to put too much into this model."
"It's not a leak," said the Lord. "It's a tear."
"What's it for?"
"It's for joy, sadness, disappointment, pain, loneliness, and pride."
"You are a genius," said the angel.
The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put it there"
THE EMPTY CHAIR A man's daughter had asked the local minister to come and pray with her father. When the minister arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows. An empty chair sat beside his bed. The minister told him his name and then remarked, "I see the empty chair "Oh yeah, the chair," said the bed ridden man. "Would you mind closing the door?" Puzzled, the minister shut the door. "I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter," said the man. At church I used to hear the pastor talk about prayer, but it went right over my head. I abandoned any attempt at prayer," the old man continued, "until one day about four years ago my best friend said to me, 'Johnny, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus. Here is what I suggest." "Sit down in a chair; place an empty chair in front of you, and in faith see Jesus on the chair. It's not spooky because he promised, "I'll be with you always." Then just speak to him in the same way you're doing with me right now." "So, I tried it and I've liked it so much that I do it a couple of hours every day. I'm careful though. If my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she'd either have a nervous breakdown or send me off to the funny farm." The minister was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the old man to continue on the journey. Then he prayed with him, anointed him with oil, and returned to the church. Two nights later the daughter called to tell the minister that her daddy had died that afternoon. "Did he die in peace?" he asked. "Yes, and when I left the house about two o' clock, he called me over to his bedside and told me he loved me and kissed me on the cheek. When I got back from the store an hour later, I found him dead. But there was something strange about his death. Apparently, just before Daddy died, he leaned over and rested his head on the chair beside the bed. What do you make of that?" The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said, "I wish we could all go like that." Tater People Some people never seem motivated to participate, but are just content to watch while others do the work. Some people never do anything to help, but are gifted at finding fault with the way others do the work. Some people are very bossy and like to tell others what to do, but don't want to soil their own hands. Some people are always looking to cause problems by asking others to agree with them. It is too hot or too cold, too sour or too sweet. There are those who say they will help, but somehow just never get around to actually doing the promised help. Some people can put up a front and pretend to be someone they are not. Then there are those who love others and do what they say they will. They are always prepared to stop whatever they are doing and lend a helping hand. They bring real sunshine into the lives of others.
The minister assumed that the old fellow had been
"I guess you were expecting me," he said. "No, who are you?" said the father.
I figured you knew I was going to show up."
"But all of my life I have never known how to pray.
